KS1 and KS2 Maths

1. Number- number and place value Students will be encouraged to count, write and read numbers ranging from one to three digits. They will then be taught to count forward and backwards with positive and negative numbers by making good use of number lines. Students will be encouraged to solve various number and practical problems.

2. Number- Addition and subtraction Students will practise addition and subtraction of 1-3-digit numbers and go on to solve one -step and multi-step problems. Students will also add and subtract numbers mentally and will then be encouraged to estimate answers to a calculation before checking the answers. All students will undergo mental arithmetic tests on a regular basis.

3. Number- Multiplication and division Students will be taught to multiply two digit and three-digit numbers by a one- or two-digit number. Eventually they will be able to multiply four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers. Students will also practise their times tables up to 12 X 12 and will undergo regular multiplication tests. Students will be taught to solve one step and multi-step problems involving multiplication and division. If students struggle, they will be encouraged to calculate answers using concrete objects or pictorial representations.

4. Number- fractions and decimals Students will be encouraged to count, add and subtract in fractions. They will also be taught to find fractions of a shape or length and do various calculations using fractions with the same denominators or denominators of the same multiples. Students will also write decimal equivalents to fractions and round up decimal numbers. They will be encouraged to solve problems such as the calculation of percentages and problems where reduction/enlargement of a length can be calculated by finding its linear scale factor.

  5. Measurement Students will be taught to measure various quantities such as length, time and volume and will be encouraged to use appropriate standard units typically used to measure a quantity. Students will be challenged to measure the perimeter and area of 2D shapes as well as the area of parallelograms and triangles. Students will be taught to estimate and calculate the volume of cubes and cuboids using standard units.

  6. Geometry- properties of shapes Students will be taught to recognise and identify 2D and 3D shapes and identify their properties. They will also be taught to illustrate and name parts of a circle such as the radius, diameter and circumference. Students will be taught to estimate and compare angles such as acute, obtuse and reflex angles and to draw their own given angles and measure them in degrees.

  7. Geometry- Position and direction Students will find out about the different ways a shape can be transformed, including translation, rotation and reflection. They will also be encouraged to describe positions on a 2D grid as co-ordinates.

8. Statistics Students will be encouraged to make predictions of results using scatter graphs and a line of best fit. They will also be taught to interpret and present data using a range of graphs.

KS3 and KS4 Maths

Students will build on their knowledge and continue to solve increasingly challenging problems. They will be taught to apply their mathematical knowledge in Science, Geography, Computing and other subjects. Students will be taught to develop their mathematical reasoning by solving increasingly sophisticated problems. Students struggling with these will be provided with additional practice.

Practice makes perfect

In a classroom you are not always given the luxury of time and space. At Beyond Tuition we offer both, so our students can brush up on essential subject matters. Our students are taught at their own pace and without the pressure of prying eyes or unexpected disturbances. We offer flexible and affordable tailor-made classes to enhance performance, improve confidence and develop understanding.

The best resources

In addition to private tuition classes, we offer our students a variety of resources. At Beyond Tuition we have on hand workbooks, CGP books and textbooks, practice papers and books from the exam-board, as well as online resources hand-picked by qualified teachers. Successful techniques will also be taught, allowing students to hone valuable skillsets.
